There's a story my Dad used to tell me as a child that always stuck with me, and it was of the First Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak, who daily would go to the river to bathe in the cold water and sing god's praises through meditation.

It is said that one day, he disappeared and could not be found. All his friends and family grew afraid that he had drowned.

The Guru was in a diving trance underwater in which he was sitting in God's own presence. So filled with love that he sang the first part of the holy text Japji Sahib (which can be seen through the fish)

After three days, the Guru came out and the villagers gasped in disbelief. They had given up hope of ever seeing him again. For a long time, he did not speak, but when he finally did, he said 'There is no Hindu and no Muslim. Everyone is equal.' (meaning that there was no difference between people or religions).

From that day on, he spread the message that all are equal, and equally loved by God, no matter how they worship him.
